I have had this modem since October of 2014. It has worked just fine on Economy Plus Service. Recently, I had a problem with internet service slowing way down. Comcast found the cable to my house was bad, BUT during the Cluster X Comcast always does, they informed me the modem was end-of-life and needed to be replaced. They have quit providing them, but why should I throw away one of the best modems for my purposes available?
Dan says...
If you lease the SB6141 from Comcast then it is end of life and they will give you a new one. However, if you bought it or are planning on buying one, it is not end of life. Their website says: "Only purchased SB6141 retail devices will continue to be activated on our network. The Comcast leased version of this device will no longer be activated." This note can be found here: Comcast SB6141 Retail

question: in buying my own router, will I need one that is modem/router combined to be able to connect to internet with my tablet?
Dan says...
You can either buy a modem without a built-in WIFI router and a separate WIFI router or buy a modem with a built-in WIFI router. If you already have a modem, just buy a WIFI router.

This modem is awesome, I never rent equipment and I only buy the best.

How sad the cost in May 2012 for this product was $75 and now the same product is aprox $125.00. This is one reason I will never by anything from this company again. That is an aprox. increase of 50% hmmm. I will now buy things from the retail stores because at least they have a reason for the difference in price.

So, are you going to review the product, or complain about the price?

I've had this modem for 3 months. I love it. Time Warner forced me to get a new modem because they claimed my old Linksys one would no longer be compatible as of 6/30/12. This Motorola is nice and compact (about the size of my hand), simple to install and works perfectly. I have Road Runner Lite (they don't even advertise it any more), which is supposed to get 1 MB down and 100 KB up. EVERY speed test I've done during the three months has been almost exactly 1 MB down AND up. The one annoying, minor thing is that the connectivity LED light on the front of the modem ALWAYS flashes (amber color), instead of staying static like the other four lights (power, downstream, upstream, and Web connectivity). I called Motorola to see if it's supposed to flash all the time (because the manual doesn't say) and the rep said YES. He said that many people call about it. The huge bonus is this is 3.0 modem! I paid about $75 on Amazon for it, brand new in the plain manufacturer's packaging.
